Established and upcoming artists from all over South India have displayed their work at the Art gallery housed in the Culture Centre. The gallery works with the sole purpose of providing a platform for emerging artists and honours the work of those established. Over the years, the gallery has made art accessible to art lovers and also helped create awareness among the general public.
In addition to art shows, the art gallery also puts together workshops, training programmes and group shows. In the past, this has brought together a rich diversity of artistic expressions.
In the world of art, the Kasthuri Sreenivasan Art Gallery holds a special place. Several eminent artists have contributed their best work to be part of the gallery and these are showcased in the exhibit halls. Many of the art exhibits include award winning work as well.
The Barbara Sreenivasan Memorial Awards for Fine Arts was instituted in 2008, to honour the memory of Mrs. Barbara Sreenivasan, whose water colour landscape work and portraits are exhibited in the Kasthuri Sreenivasan Art Gallery.
The awards are given to art students pursuing formal training in art colleges in the Southern states and carries a certificate, memento and cash prize. The awards are chosen by an eminent panel of judges and is conducted annually.
Barbara Sreenivasan was born in England and made India her home, following her marriage to Kasthuri Sreenivasan. The Culture Centre is in many ways a tribute to her aesthetics.
